Are you a perfectionist person? Do you want to have a perfect body? Want to become a famous model? Then you probably want to continue reading this and get some things you have to consider.
Lets start with these two eating disorders we have tackled this afternoon on our class which I am very interested. Our lecturer discussed and shows videos of an anorexic male model and a combination of anorexic and bulimic person. So what is these eating disorders?
The eating disorder known as anorexia nervosa is commonly described as “self-starvation.” Characteristics of the disorder include a refusal to maintain a minimally normal weight, an intense fear of gaining weight, a disturbed and unrealistic body image, and (in women) the absence of menstrual periods. (Low body weight and/or the cessation of menses distinguishes anorexia from the related disorder, bulimia.) Sufferers may starve themselves simply by restricting the amount of calories or types of food they consume; or there can be a pattern of excessive binge eating followed by purging through self-induced vomiting, inappropriate use of laxatives or enemas, or excessive exercise.
Female gender, low self-esteem, genetics, and social emphasis on thinness all increase the risk for this condition. The consequences of untreated anorexia can be severe, including electrolyte disturbances, heart rhythm abnormalities, and death. Treatment usually involves psychotherapy, medication, nutrition education, and family therapy.
An eating disorder known as bulimia, common especially among young women of normal or nearly normal weight, that is characterized by episodic binge eating and followed by feelings of guilt, depression, and self-condemnation. It is often associated with measures taken to prevent weight gain, such as self-induced vomiting, the use of laxatives, dieting, or fasting which makes as same as anorexia.
Below is the videos our lecturer showed to us. (This videos is not suitable for minors)
1st one is an anorexic male model.
2nd video shows you a combination of anorexia and bulimia.
Upon seeing those videos, I learned something that, you should be contented on what you have. If you don’t have a perfect body, don’t worry, its not bad. God gave us these bodies for good and we should accept it.
